As others have stated, this is a freedom of speech issue as much as anything here, whilst people (depending on your point of view) rightly or wrongly hate the far right for their beliefs and often site the NAZI’s for this (although there are also other examples), the far left is just as bad, with Mao, Stalin, Pol-Pot not to mention all the “left” states created by the Soviets post WWII which have far higher bodycounts and incited even more hatred against those they did not like. You are providing a piece of software, granted it’s free, but how about keeping politics, and specifically your political beliefs out of it. If you want to put in music filtering, thats fine, but allow the user to put in tags that they want filtered out, not just what you want them to filter out. Then the users can decide what they want.

The far right wants to promote the harm and killing of many minorites, including minorties coding up these open source projects. Im not sure about this method on a technical level due to the extra work needed by indie artists (I think that was a fair point brought up) but I respect the effort to tackle this hate itself. I also understand being concerned any time censorship is imposed, and we should always be extra cautious with these thibgs. but being completely hands off is what led many communities to their downfall. The adage of a bar letting in Nazis eventually becoming a Nazi bar is a true one. In the end there is no simple solution. The price of our freedom is vigilance, and to forever have to properly identify fight against those who wish to use our freedoms as temporary means to destroy them.

Our long-term goal is to move our primary social identity into our publication itself. This is pretty experimental, and there are some open questions as to how we'll end up making everything work. A big concern involves making this scale decently in a self-hosted environment: if we migrate our identity and several thousand followers, is this going to break stuff? We're cautiously optimistic, and testing the waters.

I don't like Nazis. But to big parts of Fedi center-left is far right, centrists are fascists, and anybody right of center is a Nazi. Funkwhale is about to become a far left only music platform.
