net: Google Drive Sharing dual layer

https://tongfamily.com/2025/03/1...

OK, so we have Google Drive for sharing things and man has it gotten complicated. The problem is that sharing is more restricted now and the default is that you cannot share things with non-workspace members. It is confusing because when you try to share with someone, you set it and then it doesn't take, […]

https://tongfamily.com/2025/02/2...

Well, asdf, direnv and the plug asdf-direnv are wonderful when they work, but very mysterious when they don't. As of today, you need to use my build of asdf-direnv and you also have to do some work to setup it up if you are on a out of date Linux Ubuntu box. Here are the […]

Sam showed me years ago a great way to organize your local machine. Basically you create workspace directory ws and then you put git, data, cache and everything else you need to build for that project. For a long time ws was my home GitHub project I keep at richtong but lately we've been so […]

mac: No space because of Time Machine hidden in Restricted Files

https://tongfamily.com/2025/02/1...

I had totally forgotten that I had setup one of my machines with Time Machine. Most of the time it has no impact, but when you are trying to download 500GB of LLM models it makes a difference. Time Machine is supposed to be smart about local snapshots, but when you delete a lot of […]

Well, git submodules are useful and frustrating at the same time, since we have literally a few dozen of these, I finally spent time figuring out what was wrong and it comes down to two commands and making sure you do not have error: Now that this is set, by default you are in detached […]

This is a cool tool that lets you jam multiple Macs (or other machines together) and run inference in a circle with a project called EXO It does require a bit of setup. I tried to do a pipx install of it, but it is not packaged that way. You also can't do a `pipx […]

OK, my previous post on Open WebUI was getting long, so here is a getting a little long and while it covers ComfyUI integration, the bigger topic of using ComfyUI is scattered all over the winds. So if you just want to get ComfyUI to work, here's the missing manual for that. Some of this […]

@rich @richtong It seems to also work (or not work) in nested doll fashion. Passkeys for your 1Password. Co-existing, possibly conflicting with old methods. I’m fine with trusted biometric sign in.

In reply to poleguy. OK, I've been using the (new to me WordPress to Mastodon) publishing system, so apologies if this doesn't work, but I'll also direct post. Here are the sound differences I found backward to forward. This is a condenser microphone with a tight cardiod pattern and it is a relatively quiet and non-resonant room

The volume was definitely much, much lower, I'm not sure it was 16dB but definitely significant probably at least 8dB, but I didn't have my SPL handy. https://www.shure.com/en-US/performance-production/louder/microphone-directionality-polar-pattern-basics

The actual frequency response was very different, there was significant falloff in the treble and also in the bass, it sounded much more "thin". I had not expected this and it is not documented, but it makes some sense that the frequency response would change with a cardiod pattern. When I turned it around, the sound was much, much richer. Although the theory says there should be more high frequency rolloff, I think the mid rolloff was the most significant at least for me and in OBS, I had no less than a 5dB boost to try to fix this. But when I turned it around, flat was great. I also boosted the input gain alot more. My Focusrite Scarlett doesn't really have measurements on it, but I moved from an amplification at 3 o'clock back to more like 2'oclock.

@rich what was the audible difference in sound in your recordings between the NT1A forwards vs backwards? Can you describe it? Can you even tell? In a chamber it would have dropped the signal by 16 dB if backwards. But in a resonant space it might not matter nearly so much.

It definitely looks like Disqus no longer works with both wp friends and also wp cache operational. That should be a problem, I don't get comments anyway.
