My plant community is N. Cali Coastal Sage Scrub/Strand. My profile pic is a bunch of css lupines on a bike path. Why native plants? The local plants co-evolved with the local insects/birds/etc to make an ecosystem. Oak trees are a host plant for 150+ butterflies/moths, which start out as caterpillars, otherwise known as bird food. A nest of baby birds needs 600-900 worms to eat. A non-native plant hosts 0 insects, starving the birds. The bees like them too.
