Server move complete.

The transition of diasporasocial.net is now complete. If the server is not reachable from your side, it might be due to still ongoing DNS replication and it should work after some time.

This is also an interresting new experiment for me: the pod now runs on Fedora CoreOS and the services are completely containerized. Due to the automatic selfupdating nature of CoreOS, the server will rebooted about 1x per month, which might result in a short, negligible outage. But it saves me from doing this OS update work manually, which is fine :-).
The setup is now immutable infrastructure, which means an update is essentially a throw away and rebuild. I'll be able to just update the diaspora container though, because that is faster. But a positive side aspect is, I can recreate the complete server (except data restore) on any other server at any time, it just needs regular backups. I created a terraform module fcos-diaspora and made it available here on github. This module is essentially used for this pod. Maybe you want to experiment with it or use it to setup your own pod.

Next week, around Wednesday/Thursday (24.02/25.02.2021), the diasporasocial.net will move to a new server. Consequently it will be offline for around one hour or two. I will post here and inform you around 1 hour in advance, when the process starts.
Since I prepared and tested the action already, I don’t expect any trouble… still fingers crossed that everything will run through and be fine ;-)

Several people have reported that the image captcha was not rendered when they tried to register on diasporasocial.net. This is now fixed.

Technically: The ImageMagick RPM builders decided for some reason to rename the /etc/ImageMagick directory to /etc/ImageMagick-6, which screwed up copying of the adapted policy.xml file and resulted in use of the original, non-functional policy.xml. If anybody happens to maintain a pod on CentOS 7: this is something to be aware of.
