A very beautiful species in the rainforest: lantern bug which belongs to the pointed-headed cicadas.

During the daily boat trips on the river, we actually kept an eye out for animals. Every now and then, however, our old instinct for landscape photography kicked in when the evening light illuminated the rainforest or the mist hung in the trees in the morning.

In the rainforest we encountered a wide variety of mushrooms. Not all of them were delicious. No, of course we didn't take any with us, let alone eat them.

While there is only one species of kingfisher in Germany, which is also very beautiful, there are 14 different species in dazzling colours in Malaysia. We regularly saw the stork-billed kingfisher and sometimes also the white-throated kingfisher.

An eye for detail was also worthwhile in Malaysia. There were various dragonfly species along the river that were easy to photograph.

The long-tailed macaques are hardly shy. Especially in areas where they are fed by humans, they can become quite intrusive. In Malaysia, they were never unpleasant and being able to get close without disturbing the animals has its advantages when taking photos.

One species that I was able to observe in the wild for the first time in Malaysia are hornbills. While most of the species are very loyal to their habitat, the plain-pouched hornbill is a migratory bird. In July and August in particular, sometimes over a thousand of these birds migrate across the north of the country. We repeatedly saw small groups in the air and could sometimes even hear their loud wing beats.

Monkeys can be found almost everywhere in Malaysia. From the cities to the rainforest. Particularly widespread are the long-tailed macaques, which adapt to different habitats.
