I have to admit, I started skipping (just a little) when your conservative friend started asking the question; how do we know when enough boxes are checked?? This to me (in the tone I hear in my head) was enough for me to understand he would like it to just go away. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>I usually agree with most of what you see but in this instance I don't. I believe your friend is a racist though I don't believe he wants to be (or at least not perceived as one). I loved your relay race analogy, as I often have used something similar myself during conversations such as the one you had. The problem with the people (as I see it) like your friend is that they don't really want to look at the totality of the situation, just where it is now. That's a problem. It's not just that you got there, it's also how you got there. He would like to ignore that caucasian people had a few centuries head start in a life relay race that though they didn't directly run, have benefited from. Without that acknowledgment, it's going to be difficult to move forward. The reality is many people who have an advantage just because of their skin color, are in no rush to give that up. Though your friend may not be one. That, in my opinion, is the basis of Trumps entire campaign. People in general love to feel special because they exist. Martin Luther King Jr. would like for us to be special because of our actions and our character. Those people, Trump included, want no part of that!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Anywho, that's my one cent to respond to your two cents. My metaphor for what is actually happening is akin to running a race. The people in power get a head start, half way through they say you can start now and to them, all is fair. Now, they are trying to find someway of taking away the small method they created to closing the gap under the guise that it may be illegal. Disappointing but not surprising.
