I've always been one of those annoying people who—while not terribly adventurous with new foods—can eat almost anything while traveling, and never get sick…until suddenly I wasn't.
24.8.2024 02:11Sick on VacationI haven’t watered the balcony garden in over a week. There are things that need to be done, they just keep happening, but other things must fall by the wayside in order for the appearance of forward motion to continue. I’m glad it’s rainy season, and I hope my plants are surviving the combination of […]
2.7.2024 05:17BreakfastIf I hadn't grown up in Hippietown, USA, I'm almost positive I would never make a recipe called chocolate + zucchini anything, so I understand if you're having a case of baker's reluctance here…but I promise you can trust me on this!
22.6.2024 07:40I Swear That Chocolate Zucchini Bread is Really Amazing. Really Really! At its heart, a traditional French carrot salad is little more than a freshly~squeezed lemon atop grated carrots…but I can't just leave well enough alone.
14.6.2024 01:41Semi~Sacrilegious French Carrot SaladI gotta say, i’m team Mr. Scout on this one! I love lemon meringue pie so very much, and I will always be down for anything lemon flavoured This honestly sounds heavenly, and has gone on my ever-growing list of “things I want to make someday”
Despite their simple appearance—and the fact that I genuinely believe anyone can make one—tiramisu is really not something that is thrown together…
10.6.2024 07:47When May gives you lemons…Sometimes, tho, the idea of banana bread just doesn't get me excited, so a lot of the time, I end up making it less as a labor of love, and more as something I need to do to avoid waste.

I hope so too, because I have a lot of posts on the back burner (no pun intended), and it would be nice to even want to THINK about food!
30.5.2024 08:36Comment on On healing and getting better… by ScoutI hope you recover soon.
29.5.2024 10:54Comment on On healing and getting better… by Sheryl GimAfter surgery, I expected an uphill journey to heal…I didn't expect that some of the hardest parts would be getting through little colds & illnesses.
28.5.2024 09:19On healing and getting better…Somehow, tho, I got it into my head that I wanted to make madeleines, and I set the pan on the stovetop as a reminder…proceeding to move it in & out of my way for nearly a week before I was up to the task.…
16.5.2024 05:30Post~Surgery Life & Making MadeleinesIn reply to leslie.
I am an elevenses fan myself! Recovery is slow~going, but most days are a little better than the one before.

I aim for the hobbit life: breakfast, elevenses, lunch, tea, dinner. How are you doing? One day at time for recovery eh.

12.5.2024 04:26Comment on A Busy Day by leslieAfter a very busy morning, I found myself at home with enough time to make the first nice lunch I’ve made since having surgery three weeks ago! ❤︎ Do you ever notice (or is it just me?) that when you have to wake up much earlier than usual, and then run around like a loon […]
10.5.2024 07:51A Busy DayFinally, I decided to use my culinary background to my benefit (finally!?!), and tried cooking it in the methods of different custards (which is what most pudding basically is), and I got closer than ever. The best results came from using an overnight soak for the tapioca in a portion of the milk, cooking it very slowly to allow the tapioca time to bloom and cook fully, and then tempering in the eggs closer to the end of the process. It worked! w00t です!!
6.5.2024 01:11Creamy, Old Fashioned Tapioca Pudding
I've always wondered why it is that hospital food is (by my experience) about 80/20 terrible/acceptable. And, why there's so little choice. Food = comfort to so many people and there's so little to look forward to when you're in a hospital, you'd think they'd make it a mission to at least get that right? I understand you can't have a restaurant style menu, but imagine how different it would be if there was at least a choice or two you could make?

If at least they could say, well, we're trying to provide healthy/nourishing food to ailing people, but man, at least in Japanese hospitals I've been in the standard does not meet that requirement for sure most of the time - even according to the hospital nutritionists I've had to see after some of my surgeries - it boggles the mind.

But here's to hoping you have to suffer that food for the least possible amount of time!! ... And if it causes you to write some quality sh*tposts here and there, that'll be fun too!

18.4.2024 09:12Comment on Hospital Food by AndrewI’m usually on the go in the morning so grab a bagel or croissant but if I have the time I love eggs and bacon or an avocado toast
