Mark Paul is the co-author, with Joe Mathews, of California Crackup: How Reform Broke the Golden State and How We Can Fix It. He was formerly editorial page editor and national editor of the Oakland Tribune and deputy editorial page editor of the Sacramento Bee. He served as deputy treasurer of California and policy director for the 2006 gubernatorial campaign of Phil Angelides. He has taught U.S. history at Simon Fraser University and Stanford.
