Hopefully the meltdowns will go away quickly once they get used to the idea of it! Cultivating that kind of independence from a young age is super important. We usually made breakfast for our three kids but they had to be responsible for packing their own lunches!

This week's biggest meltdown came as part of a new policy to try to improve their independence that, on Monday mornings, they have to make their own breakfasts. They do this on ocassion just generally, but <em>having</em> to do so was such an imposition on the 8-year-old that he tried refusing to get out of bed, refusing to get dressed, etc. etc. I almost blogged about it. But I'll just hide this comment out on the Internet somewhere instead.
