Humans are intent on turning the Earth into Giedi Prime. Those of us opposed to this are, unfortunately, a tiny minority.
24.4.2025 17:49Comment on Farewell to the Trees by jdhlax
Trees are so much more than cooling shade on a hot day. They provide a natural joy for kids n adults to climb and swing on branches, plus a habitat in crooks, hollows and trunks for animals, and insects not to mention birds. The leaves can be an eye spectacular of flowers, buds and changing autumn colors. The conifers, spruces, cedars and redwoods provide abundant home and commercial building woods, furniture and firewood. The beauty of trees shapes our visual landscape so much more appeasing than another sad box or cube of non-descript buildings Ticky-tack boxes can't replace trees that have survived hard and hot asphalt. The tree roots, and trees are L I F E, an abundant energy. The new library and box buildings will be soul less....

24.4.2025 07:38Comment on Farewell to the Trees by Paul
This is the legacy we leave our children. But will they even notice? Will they even know what a tree is/was? Or care? I mean, don't they all just sit and stare at screens all day anyway? Oh well, maybe not ALL. Thanks for sharing this notice, Michael.

21.4.2025 19:27Comment on Farewell to the Trees by brisklypioneering3624a38adbIn downtown Santa Cruz, amidst the rapidly increasing onslaught of multi-story tower blocks, a small oasis of greenery, cooling shade and wildlife has for decades served as a meeting place for Santa Cruz residents and visitors. Generations of Santa Cruzans have enjoyed the Farmers Market and Antique Faire beneath this leafy glen, providing respite from … Continue reading Farewell to the Trees

19.3.2025 19:54Comment on Wolves Under Attack, Again by Michael LewisIn reply to Michael Lewis. Thanks, we obviously agree on much. One area where I don't agree is that while Republicans are openly hostile to the natural world and the life there (Reagan/Watt, Cheney, and Trump being the worst of them for different reasons), it was OBAMA who unleashed the current attack on wolves with his political delisting of the northern Rockies wolves. Trump is merely an extension of what the Democrats have been doing this century, and as vile as he is, I see no reason to obsess on him. The whole system, including the two parties, is totally rotten and immoral, and that's where our focus needs to be. Obsessing on Trump just gets us more evil in the form of Democrats, which is something I don't at all support.

19.3.2025 19:35Comment on Wolves Under Attack, Again by Michael Lewis "[T]he gray wolf population has exceeded recovery goals." The only numbers needed to properly analyze this situation are that when the colonizers got here, there were about as many wolves in what is now the U.S. as there were humans. The population that needs to be reduced is the human one (along with their cattle and pets). Unlike these mean-spirited unevolved people, I don't advocate killing anyone, birth control and abortion would be just fine. The wolf population is still well below that of its natural numbers and needs to be greatly increased, along with freeing up land for their habitat.

19.3.2025 17:47Comment on Wolves Under Attack, Again by brisklypioneering3624a38adbReps. Boebert and Tiffany Reintroduce Legislation to Delist the Gray Wolf Once again, North American wolves are under attack by ignorant, self-serving politicians in the United States government. Two MAGA Republicans have introduced the oddly named Pet and Livestock Protection Act (see below), supposedly to protect cows and “pets” from wolves. Deploying the following picture … Continue reading Wolves Under Attack, Again

10.3.2025 22:15Comment on When the Wheels Fall Off the Trolley by brisklypioneering3624a38adbYes, this is a blog about the Natural World in which we all live. Unfortunately, some are less than responsible citizens, who refuse to live in harmony with Nature. It’s only been a month since the Orange Oval One was sworn into office. For those of us who care about preserving and defending the Natural … Continue reading When the Wheels Fall Off the Trolley
10.3.2025 18:32When the Wheels Fall Off the TrolleyWe Live in the Natural World – yes, we do. All of us. All life. All the time. However, the majority of humans on this benighted and much abused planet have yet to get the memo, and they haven’t figured it out on their own, either. There are many things that humans do, or attempt … Continue reading Un-Natural Acts in the Natural World
2.3.2025 19:54Un-Natural Acts in the Natural WorldMy mind is always wandering, sometimes here, sometimes there, sometimes beyond all reckoning. I’m thinking about writing about simplicity, but in trying to write about it, it becomes complicated. The myriad changes the Trump/Musk regime is pushing forward these days make business as usual more complicated for business and government bureaucracies, and the general public … Continue reading Simplicity
20.2.2025 20:39SimplicityThe vision of an Ecotopian society is illustrated in this R. Crumb image of modest, low tech human habitations scattered aesthetically among the trees. 16.2.2025 19:47The Government War on TreesWhat to do, what to do? Over the past thirty years or so, I’ve promoted bioregional organization as an approach to reforming or replacing the current centralized authoritarian political/economic system that is destroying the Natural World. You may have read my earlier posts on Bioregionalism, HERE, HERE and HERE, and others. OK, sounds good. Now … Continue reading Public Participation Primer
9.2.2025 18:11Public Participation PrimerFebruary 2, 2025 Weekly Commentary Well, it’s done! The Orange One is now the Oval Orange One (Oh, Oh, Oh). Nothing to do about it. No more gnashing of teeth, pulling of hair. It’s here, it’s real, it’s … a done deal. Yes, the fascist totalitarian oligarchy has arrived, full bore (pun intended), all stops … Continue reading Tiptoeing Into the New World
2.2.2025 18:53Tiptoeing Into the New WorldCommentary Any system of government of and for the human residents of a bioregional community should reflect the natural organization of the greater bioregion. Centralized authoritarian rule is antithetical to natural bioregions. Centralization, hierarchy and autocracy are not found in the natural world, nor in historical non-state human social systems. Our current system of county … Continue reading Bioregional Governance
26.1.2025 20:06Bioregional GovernanceLocal farmers grow an enormous amount of food in our bioregion but most of it is exported nationally and internationally, mostly grown in monocrop factory farms using pesticides and inorganic fertilizer. Not only is food exported out of our bioregion, more importantly, precious water is exported as well. Inorganic, monocrop agriculture uses enormous amounts of … Continue reading Bioregional Organic Agriculture
