A Bit More Sun – Inside and Out

https://gooutsidetoday.com/2025/...

It feels like there's a bit more sun both outdoors and inside my own mind these days. Any guesses as to why? Also: the usual three good news stories - plus I did sneak an extra one in for you. Enjoy!

Comment on Mindful March: The Replacements by Todd

In reply to Lakshmi Bhat.
Thanks! I think there are some things we have to get from certain places for sure. My aim is to minimize what I need first, then for those things I need, get them as close to home as possible. Some things, like coffee are not possible for me to get 100% locally. We buy from local roasters but they're always going to come from somewhere more tropical. I'm not ready to give up caffeine just yet. :-)

Comment on Reducing Anxiety and Increasing Happiness Through Intentional Consumption by Todd

https://gooutsidetoday.com/2025/...

In reply to Lakshmi Bhat. Yes, trying times for sure. Was that समय की परीक्षा https://kaushalkkishore.wordpress.com/2025/03/11/%e0%a4%b8%e0%a4%ae%e0%a4%af-%e0%a4%95%e0%a5%80-%e0%a4%aa%e0%a4%b0%e0%a5%80%e0%a4%95%e0%a5%8d%e0%a4%b7%e0%a4%be-test-of-time/? The link was just to the overall blog page but that one makes sense. It's a good one! And oh yes. I'm gone from Facebook, gone from Instagram, gone from Threads, and long gone from Twitter/X. I stop by Bluesky once a week or so. Mastodon gets a little more of my attention but only a small group of people. I prefer that as it just posts in order not by some algorithm that prioritizes posts that get people excited - in a good or more often bad way. I've also almost completed my exit from Google as well. Basically I have two motivations: One is to reduce the amount of money, data, time, and attention I give to those American companies that are fuelling both financially and ideologically all that is happening, getting in lockstep with the government. If they make money from my data then they don't need my data. I'll pay for services instead. The other is that like I said above - all of these are algorithm-driven. They are designed to bring the most upsetting things to the top of my list and make sure I see them. We think that these tools are connecting us and making us feel less alone. But in reality, they're dividing us and making us feel more alone, and often more sad as we see others' lives polished and beautified to look as good as possible by their curating what they send to the point that their own spouses wouldn't recognize the life they share online as the life they're living together. laughing Well, I do have a lot of opinions on this, don't I?

Hello Todd - and thanks! I just wanted to say you've done some good posts recently. I particularly liked your 'Replacements' and the stuff about the algorithm on this post- just good, useful and interesting (unlike an awful lot of other stuff out there). So my thanks to you - and I hope you are doing OK
