THIS week we’ve been remembering the Belfast Blitz. It’s hard to believe that 60 years have passed since Hitler dedicated the Luftwaffe’s finest planes, men, time and money to the task of flattening Belfast. If the Fuhrer had known anything at all about the character of Belfast people he would have stood down the bombers […]
7.3.2025 17:47Hitler’s dropping bombs … not sandwichesONCE, waiting to cash a cheque in an Italian bank, I was attacked by a man on a crutch. Let me set the scene. When one enters a bank in Northern Ireland, one usually joins a long, orderly queue. Civilised and slow-moving, the queue is usually made up of remarkably patient customers who resignedly accept […]
7.2.2025 16:00When in Rome, better do as the Romans do….IN London last week, and finding myself with an hour or two to spare, I went along to the Aztec Exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts. For those of you who would rather spend your trips to London walking around Piccadilly Circus staring at junkies and girls wearing short skirts, I would highly recommend […]
17.1.2025 16:13Using Aztex logic, I got it right awayGerry Anderson and Colum Arbuckle go way back—to their early days in Derry, where they became fast friends over guitars and a shared love for music. The two even shared a flat in Manchester, where they played in bands, navigated the ups and downs of life, and eventually got evicted—a memorable chapter in their journey […]
6.11.2024 14:16Gerry Anderson and Colum Arbuckle: The Toejam Story[…] Dad’s identity was rooted in music as much as in broadcasting. His journey began in the early 1960s when he taught himself the guitar […]

15.1.2024 09:29Comment on Toejam, rock and roll lives forever by Treasa AndersonTonight 47 years ago went to see Toejam play in Redcastle. A brilliant rock and roll band that played a lot in Omagh at the Cheltham Arms and The Barrell and Basket. Slim G great on the bass and Colin great singing the vocals whilst Jim hammered on the drums and kept everything going. If ever a CD was made of the recordings then I would like a copy. Once was talking to Gerry and if I remember correctly a fire destroyed all of the recordings or so he thought.

9.9.2023 11:02Comment on What is Patrick Kielty doing now? by Going Across the Water - Gerald Michael Anderson[…] not like others haven’t gone before him. Our darling Terry Wogan, the charming Graham Norton, Ryan’s former classmate, Craig Doyle, Angela Scanlon, Laura […]
9.9.2023 10:47Comment on When Gerry met Terry in Derry by Going Across the Water - Gerald Michael AndersonMany of us have ventured across the water to earn our crust. Or as Christy Moore sings: …..you can’t live on love, on love aloneSo you sail cross the ocean, away cross the foam Missing You, Christy Moore And Gerry certainly did his stint away cross the foam. You might be aware of the recent […]
8.9.2023 15:08Going Across the WaterWe Omagh folk like to claim Brian Friel as one of our own but nevertheless one of Ireland’s finest playwrights. Happy for Derry to adopt him though. Saw the play in London’s West End and loved it.
25.8.2023 21:56Comment on Lughnasa, the beginning of Autumn by Sean SheridanFond memories of your Dad telling those stories and thank you for keeping them alive
25.8.2023 20:08Comment on Lughnasa, the beginning of Autumn by Paul McGeehan[…] August of the summer of 1936.. It’s a time of worry, immigration and craic. Dad always said, “It’s just like Shandrim” – the house where my Granny grew up in Inishowen, Donegal. The house still stands to this […]
25.8.2023 17:18Comment on Back to Sackville Street by Lughnasa, the beginning of Autumn - Gerald Michael AndersonWe are just past the old Irish festival of Lughnasa or Lughnasadh. Not that I’d ever say Dad was a man of the land, but I think something always stirred in him around this time. This ancient pagan festival marks the start of the harvest season and potentially (hopefully) a time of plenty. According to […]
25.8.2023 17:18Lughnasa, the beginning of AutumnLoved this article. Confirms why Gerry meant so much to us all and is sadly missed.
11.8.2023 15:55Comment on Gerry’s dude days in Omagh by JOHN KEENANIt was a real joy to come across an interview from Omagh Today on Gerry’s dude days in Omagh. Brian DaMuff Murphy posted the interview on The radio ulster Gerry Anderson fan group on Facebook. The group is a wonderful resource and a fabulously friendly community of Gerry’s fans (ourselves included, of course! ;)). As […]
11.8.2023 14:51Gerry’s dude days in OmaghDad reminisced about his rock ‘n’ roll days, but he never talked it up. He spoofed every now and then, but it never took him long to return to the grim reality. He enjoyed peeking behind the curtain a little more than being on stage. He worked out early on that one needed to be […]
