Eris and Ninkasi lay next to one another on Ninkasi’s bed, holding hands. The tears had dried and they lay quietly, composing their thoughts… Ninkasi broke the silence. “I told him we’re married, the three of us.” “Well, of course we are!” Eris replied. “Are we going to have a celebration at last? 22.1.2025 03:11Chapter 5: It’s ComplicatedAs word spread about this demonstration of her power of suggestion, an Emergency Conference was called to deal with the ‘Sarpanit issue.’ After Introductions and an Airing of Grievances, a Listing of Hindrances was drawn up, to spell out the problems thus far encountered in ‘dealing with’ her. “None of the delegates we send to her ever return!” A Priest of Hathor complained. “If we slay her, she becomes a Martyr Goddess for all Eternity!” One of Ninurta’s Priests cautioned. “And I doubt any amount of bloodshed would appease her followers!” “We are all but helpless against her!” A Priestess of Damkina admitted. Many of the assembled stroked their chins or raised an eyebrow, or both. “She’s not been married!” He added. “Nor has he!” Sarpanit’s mother concluded as she warmed up to the idea. There were hoots and hollers of appreciation from the assembled conferees. “But, how do we get Marduk to go along with this? She’s merely a demi-goddess, an Aspect!” A voice asked. Sarpanit’s mother – Aruru - was not having it. “We wouldn’t be here discussing her if she were ‘merely’ ANYGODDAMNEDTHING,” she said, acid almost literally dripping from her tongue.
