The trees are continuing their conspiracy to kill me, and have recruited Daylight Savings Time to help. But coffee has been brewed, causing my brain to spark random bits of lucidity in the midst of allergy season haze. These are random TTRPG thoughts.

4.3.2025 19:25Comment on Random TTRPG Thoughts #64 by David WardI run two different super hero games right now, so I thought it would be fun to do a compare and contrast video.
4.3.2025 11:27Comic Book BattleSpring is coming, the trees are trying to kill me, and we seem to be living in the stupidest timeline. Good thing I have some coffee brewed to help clear my allergy/reality-triggered headache. These are random thoughts.
4.3.2025 11:18Random TTRPG Thoughts #64Few games captured me like Shadowrun, and Munchkin was my first foray back into fantasy gaming. So when I saw that Steve Jackson games was releasing Munchkin Shadowrun, and was offering review copies at Pax Unplugged, I jumped at the opportunity.

2.3.2025 08:07Comment on Free League Face Off by ramtzIt’s warming up after the weeks of bitter cold, my psyche is dreading the coming clock change, and I have imbibed my morning caffeine. In all this my brain is firing up as random sparks of lucid thought become entangled with my squirrel-brain attention span. These are random TTRPG thoughts.

13.2.2025 00:08The Super Hero FeelIt’s cold, there’s snow on the ground, and I haven’t slept much this week. That’s the bad news. The good news is my coffee is brewing and I haven’t slept much because I’m excited about a parade on Friday! These are random TTRPG thoughts

Savage Supers is fun but whooo what a lot to build. And Savage Rifts is a whole 'nother level of crazy. (I haven't seen Savage Pathfinder myself.)

I've not gotten to be a player in PF2E yet, but for me as a GM it's nice to know that if I want to run a more unique encounter, there are rules to help me do that.

I was more engaged with that than I am when I play, say 5e, and I can see how it would speed up. But it was surprising how sneaky crunchy it really is. When I reviewed the game I was surprised by how tactical it is, as well. SW does a good job taking those aspects of gaming and distilling them into something much different, but the essence is still there. I’m impressed even if it may not end up being my cup of tea.

Refreshing to read something longer-form instead of a passing thought.

Also as someone who has published material for Savage Worlds and run multiple years of at-home games... it really speeds up once the table is comfortable with the ruleset and their characters. Even with the added complexity of exploding dice and Soak rolls, it seems way faster than any d20-based game I've ever played.
