In reply to <a href="https://penfount.social/@FPLover/113930874263021737">Parker51</a>. I kept most of my pens inked too until recently, but I'm trying something new by rotating them. Some of it is practical: I have just enough pens that the ones with less well sealed caps might dry out between uses and this helps me avoid that by making sure everything with ink in it gets used every few days. But it's also a fun creative challenge to choose palettes and stuff and encourage me to use what I've got on hand, so I can enjoy that part too.

1.2.2025 20:17Comment on February Ink Palette + Pens + Stickers by Penfount • Pen CommunityPeople actually responded to my January ink palette so I’m encouraged enough to post one for February! I’m starting with just 4 inks this month. My current plan is to also rotate in some of the other pens I have inked if I want a few more colours (I have a few on my desk … Continue reading

1.1.2025 15:00Comment on Fiber Goals 2025 by Penfount • Pen CommunityThis is my 10th year setting “fiber goals” as a fun way to direct my crafting for the year. I’ve come to feel like setting goals around creativity and joy and focusing on accomplishing things I want to do is important. Especially in contrast to a lot of traditional new year’s goals that are kind … Continue reading

31.12.2024 15:02Comment on Fiber Goals 2024: How did I do? by Penfount • Pen CommunityMy 2024 fiber goals were as follows: I already did a mid-year 2024 writeup so I’m just going to talk about the second half of the year here. 31.12.2024 15:00Fiber Goals 2024: How did I do?This year is the 10th year I'll be doing fiber goals, and I wanted to revisit some previous year's goals, so I'm starting by making myself a mega post with all of them to contemplate. Continue reading
18.12.2024 15:00Fiber Goals from years pastI still spend more time knitting than using fountain pens but you wouldn’t know it from the blog posts I write! So let’s do a bit of an update. 2.12.2024 15:00Finish or Frog Along Wrap-upI'm already 2/3 of the way through my current journal! I blame fountain pens and have some thoughts about what's working and what needs adjustment. Continue reading
22.11.2024 15:00How is my new journal setup working for me?<a href="https://curiousity.ca/author/terri/" rel="ugc">@terri</a> <a href="https://penfount.social/@penfount" rel="nofollow ugc">@penfount</a> Sharks are perfectly fine, inexpensive pens. IIRC, they come with converters, which many inexpensive pens do not! <a href="https://wandering.shop/tags/FountainPens" rel="nofollow ugc">#FountainPens</a>
14.11.2024 19:39Comment on Shark Pen! by Janice in GA<a href="https://curiousity.ca/author/terri/" rel="ugc">@terri</a> Sharks are great pens, one of the best values around. They write smoothly and have a really good seal, too. I had some inked for ~8 months and probably could have left some of them even longer.

It’s a fountain pen shaped like a shark! It’s made by Jinhao, who are known for making cheap but often decent fountain pens. It sounds like not all of their pens are winners because quality control isn’t great but if you’re willing to roll the dice and don’t mind that the design may be a … Continue reading

12.11.2024 15:00A trip to Oblation PapersIf you just want the answer to "where do I find a reliable global mirror of NVD vulnerability data?" the answer is https://cveb.in/ . It is being mirrored on the same servers used for major open source projects so you're probably already trusting them. If you want to hear the story of how we got there, read on... Continue reading

18.10.2024 14:00Best practices in practice: pre-commitIt was likely inevitable that I’d start thinking seriously about having some travel-specific fountain pens. 15.10.2024 14:00Glow Pen! TWSBI Eco (Medium)As expected, I finished my bullet journal, just barely managing to fit an entry for Sept 30th, 2024 on the last page. When you get around to trying out the pens, I found the how to guides from JetPens pretty good. Here's the one on cleaning a fountain pen: https://www.jetpens.com/blog/How-to-Clean-a-Fountain-Pen/pt/259 I've also been enjoying finding out that the fountain pen community is not entirely dissimilar to the knitting one!
1.10.2024 21:07Comment on Pilot Metropolitan fountain pen by Dr. TerriIn reply to <a href="https://curiousity.ca/2024/best-practices-black/#comment-1967">Dustin</a>. Thanks for the tip! I might have to give that a try on my next project. Right now black is so fast on the code bases where I use it that I'm not too worried about it, but I can see where it might be a big issue on larger projects than mine.
1.10.2024 21:01Comment on Best practices in practice: Black, the Python code formatter by Dr. TerriI inherited a bunch of my father-in-law’s fountain pens. I need to learn how to clean and fill them! Just haven’t gotten around to it yet…
28.9.2024 20:31Comment on Pilot Metropolitan fountain pen by PDXKnitterati/MicheleYou may want to consider Astral's `ruff format` instead of black. It's got a huge amount of momentum behind it, it's black-compatible, and its like 30x faster and it's similar in its low-configurability. https://astral.sh/blog/the-ruff-formatter The faster speed makes a notable difference in our teams developer experience.
28.9.2024 19:47Comment on Best practices in practice: Black, the Python code formatter by DustinI picked this pen up at the same time as my TWSBI pens (Making this pen 5 in my collection), with a similar vision in mind: trying the big stub nibs. 28.9.2024 14:00Pilot Metropolitan fountain penI’m starting a little mini-series about some of the “best practices” I’ve tried out in my real-life open source software development. 27.9.2024 18:00Best practices in practice: Black, the Python code formatterAfter a few months of using my mystery wood pen and the Pilot Varsity that I picked up when I bought ink for the first pen, I decided I was clearly having enough fun that I should add a few more pens to my collection. 26.9.2024 14:00TWSBI ECO-T and TWSBI Swipe Fountain PensOne of the ideas from the “bullet journal” method that never really worked for me is the “future log” one. 14.9.2024 01:16Comment on Picking up a fountain pen after 3 decades by paradoxmoA few months ago, I found a fountain pen in a drawer. 13.9.2024 14:00Picking up a fountain pen after 3 decadesA few weeks ago, I wrote a review of the Flo Mask and mentioned that I wasn’t sure how well it would work for singing. 12.9.2024 14:00Review: Singing while wearing a Flo MaskAs I mentioned in my post about my cane, I use a Synik 22 Guide's Edition for travel because of the cane mount point. 5.9.2024 14:00Travel Gear Review: Tom Bihn gearIt feels late in the pandemic to be buying a really fancy mask, but with the prospect of sitting for hours on planes while the US had increasingly significant waves of infection, I decided it was worth trying out a different style of mask to see if I liked it. 28.8.2024 14:00Travel Gear Review: Flo MaskI picked up this ruler to go with my travel notebook. I didn’t use it the way I thought I would, but it found a niche that made it fit perfectly into my travel stationery setup. What is it? A metal ruler that also acts as a clip bookmark and a stencil. 21.8.2024 14:00Travel Gear Review: Midori Clip RulerI’m loosely auditioning new notebooks to replace my bullet journal. 17.8.2024 14:00Auditioning my next bullet journalI’ve been using a cane consistently for about a decade now and I love this particular telescoping model. 15.8.2024 14:00Travel Gear Review: REI Collapsible CaneIt’s occasionally useful to know how long a knitting project will take me: When do I need to start a gift for it to be ready in time? 1.8.2024 14:00Travel Gear Review: Micro Maxi Foldable LED ScooterI’m a bit overdue for a look at this year’s fiber goals.
