In reply to jontobey. In my defence I’ve done a few more black and white variants than usual this time, although some were relegated to the gallery. I’m always curious as to which images caught your eye for black and white? Although to be honest almost all of the shots this time would happily take a monochrome conversion.
9.3.2025 20:38Comment on Return to the South Downs Way by Rob
Digital photography is very much "in the eye of the beholder" because you never know the calibration of the viewers monitor. My two monitors aren't even the same. I like the shots, and I'm always surprised at the ones you don't convert to B&W.

8.3.2025 17:43Comment on Return to the South Downs Way by jontobeyThe day after I braved the elements on New Year’s Day to photograph steam trains in a storm, we were blessed with much nicer weather, so I couldn’t resist heading back out into the countryside to take some photos. I had no real plan for the day, other than I wanted somewhere where I might … Continue reading Return to the South Downs Way
7.3.2025 22:00Return to the South Downs WayFor Christmas a year ago, my wife got me a photography experience day at the British Wildlife Centre. The centre is only open at weekends and school holidays, so when I went on my visit last June, me and the half-dozen or so other people participating had the whole place to ourselves. I did get … Continue reading British Wildlife Centre
21.2.2025 20:40British Wildlife CentreA lot of my explorations of our local area are brief, especially when it comes to the amount of photographs I take, and not always particularly planned. One day in January 2022 we found ourselves on the very windy beach at Shoreham, just because that’s where we ended up that day. Kit List Canon EOS … Continue reading Shoreham

25.1.2025 10:27Comment on To the Skies by John SamuelFor the Christmas just gone I was gifted a drone, something I’ve been tempted to add to my kit bag for a little while. I’ve obviously only had a small amount of time to play about with it, but I’ve flown it a few times and I’m pleased enough with the results (above not crashing … Continue reading To the Skies

14.1.2025 21:23Comment on Bluebell Railway: New Year’s Steam Up by RobIt’s that time of year again where I pause briefly to mark the inexorable passage of time, reflect on the year gone, and look forwards to the year ahead. I know most people normally do that right at the start of the year but I like to do it a couple of weeks in, on … Continue reading Fourteen Years

10.1.2025 20:26Comment on Bluebell Railway: New Year’s Steam Up by jontobeyMy obsession with photographing steam trains has survived successfully into 2025. I am still enjoying it immensely, to the point that I went out on New Year’s Day – a day that was cold, and wet, and under an official Met Office yellow warning for wind – to attend the Bluebell Railway’s New Year gala. … Continue reading Bluebell Railway: New Year’s Steam Up

Certainly things seem different from around 10 years ago when these sorts of sites were the best way to get your content out there. That’s not to say I’ll be stopping doing this - I like the control of having my own web presence to share my content my way.

1.1.2025 20:08Comment on 2024: the Year of Photography by jontobeyI don’t often write reviews of the year. Back in the early days of this site I used to do them regularly, but more recently I’ve only done them when I felt I had something worth saying – or, more often, because I had the energy to write one and managed to get it finished … Continue reading 2024: the Year of Photography
1.1.2025 18:062024: the Year of Photography’Tis the season to be jolly and joyous, the season of mince pies and Cadbury’s Roses, and of the joy of gifting. It is also, apparently, quite a busy season for heritage railway tours on the national rail network. As I wasn’t paying quite as much attention to steam trains this time last year I … Continue reading Steam Trains on the Mainline

13.12.2024 18:19CrochetIn reply to Scott K Marshall. Thanks Scott. It’s been good to catch up. I usually still see and enjoy your blog posts come in, even if I have been quite remiss in responding to them. It’s only recently for me that I’ve taken to IG as a place to share my photos more seriously - this site has always been my primary place for sharing. In many ways that’s a bit of an old fashioned outlook; it’s how things were when we started out many years ago, but that’s not how you get things out there so much these days. But like you very rightly said - shoot and post what you like!
