So 2024 has been a whole thing. I was hoping to reach 17 reviews this year — one more than last year — but I only matched last year’s 16. Given last year’s was written under normal circumstances, the fact I could even equal it this year, I’m quite proud of that. As many of […]
22.12.2024 00:02The Best Of My First Ten YearsWhen I mentioned this movie to a friend, they thought I meant there was a new Carry On movie, like the old saucy British movie series with Sid James, Kenneth Williams, Barbara Windsor etc… But no, this is an action thriller. It’s like Die Hard but set at an airport and…. wait, that was Die […]
20.12.2024 03:32Year 11 – Movie #16 – Carry-OnWe need to talk about Dwayne. Amid reports of selfishness, chronic lateness and other dreadful on-set behaviour, not to mention budget overruns and extensive re-shoots, Red One had a troubled production to say the least, and if reports from insiders are correct, it all falls at Dwayne Johnson’s feet. Now had this been the first […]
15.12.2024 22:39Year 11 – Movie #15 – Red OneEleven years. Over 200 movies. Right now, I honestly feel like I’ve started to hate this project. I’ve watched so much mediocre garbage this year, and this is the first time in eleven years I’ve wanted to give up — for reasons other than outside stressors. This desire is entirely fueled by this movie. There […]
13.12.2024 03:38Year 11 – Movie #14 – The Christmas BreakIt’s been a while since I reviewed an animated Christmas movie. If memory serves, it was the Benedict Cumberbatch-powered Dr Seuss’ The Grinch that I reviewed five years ago. I really enjoyed that one. Also, how the heck was that FIVE YEARS AGO?!?! So, here we have a movie that is made of several stories […]
10.12.2024 03:22Year 11 – Movie #13 – That ChristmasSometimes I sit down to watch something, and the word count of my notes is in the single figures. This is one of those things. I wrote down a summary of the opening captions: “The following is true, except the bits that aren’t.” That is literally all the notes I took. Wasn’t sure what to […]
8.12.2024 03:18Year 11 – Movie #12 – Jack in Time for ChristmasWhat a bland, generic title! The opening of this movie is a shot of the city we so often get, of Manhattan of course, only this time it’s justified as it’s our introduction to Dani. She’s an aspiring photographer trying to make it in the big city. Then we meet Amelia. She’s a lawyer who […]
5.12.2024 00:09Year 11 – Movie #11 – Friends and Family ChristmasLet’s rip this Band-Aid off quick before we begin. I do not like Jack Black. I find him irritating and annoying. Now, he’s not on the level of other actors where I will outright refuse to watch something they’re in. No, he’s tier 2. I’ll watch something he’s in, but it’s already on the back […]
28.11.2024 03:25Year 11 – Movie #10 – Dear SantaStealing a title from the Lindsey Buckingham song from National Lampoon’s Vacation, we have this tale of strangers thrown together through circumstance and all becoming friends for some reason. Our heroic Christmas Avengers are all stuck at an airport, their flight to Denver having been cancelled. They wind up sharing a passenger van and driving […]
25.11.2024 00:46Year 11 – Movie #9 – Holiday RoadBefore we get to the review, I just wanted to point you lovely people to my new Ko-Fi page for donations. It defaults to only a one month donation, but you can subscribe if you wish. There will be donor/subscriber only content coming in early December. First item will be me picking my favourite movies […]

18.11.2024 23:05Comment on Year 11 – Movie #7 – Just Like a Christmas Movie by ElIn reply to greatmcnate. It's funny, the day after I reviewed it I saw a bunch of people I follow on Twitter who just watched it, coincidentally, and raved over it too.

7.12.2020 20:14Comment on Year 7 – Movie #5 – Lego Star Wars Holiday Special by SteveI think of my first love! Her name was Fiona.
7.12.2020 20:13Comment on Year 7 – Movie #7 – The Princess Switch – Switched Again by SteveMine was overworked party planner, saves the failing family fishing business and falls for a widowed librarian. Mine was very faintly predictable. And I think I've seen yours!
7.12.2020 20:12Comment on Your Pandemic Hallmark Christmas Movie Generator by SteveA manic pixie corporate lawyer finds herself stranded in her home town during a pandemic lockdown, after she came home to settle her parents' estate. Against her better judgemnt, she falls in love with Santa Claus. Together they learn the true meaning of Christmas. So, my pandemic Hallmark movie is Legally Blonde 3: Ms. Elle Wood-Claus.

3.12.2020 19:42Comment on Year 7 – Movie #7 – The Princess Switch – Switched Again by greatmcnateI finally got around to watching this last night. It was everything you said, others said, and all I expected. It's so packed with references and allusions that I think I will need to watch it again to catch more of them. Btw, I refuse to call those "Easter eggs." That's another term that now has no meaning thanks to people misusing it and over-using its misuse.
