Why howdy there #Checkin People! It’s Rod again. Other than apologizing for blanking out on the moderation thing Thursday, I got nothing.

Was a time when Memorial Day holiday weekend was one in which a large group of friends would travel from all over and gather to celebrate our friend Gordon’s birthday at his large house in Pacific Beach. But he’s been gone some years now, as well as many of the attendees, so these days I usually spend this weekend in quiet reflection.

In preparation I picked up a several library holds on Friday, and already have one down, with a few more to go. The best part about having spoiled lap cats is their use as a handy book rest.

The kids are coming into town for a visit on Thursday with plans for touring the Japanese Friendship Gardens in Balboa Park. on Friday. We'll hang out as much as possible before they head back Sunday morning. Whenever we get together, it's as if I don't realize just how much I've missed them until I see them in person. In spite of the fact that I expect such a phenomenon, it continues to be surprising,

Hey, hey, it's Monday!

I was a tomboy growing up so there were a lot of stereotypes I just didn’t bother with. That changed at around 16 as I absorbed elements of women’s roles. One thing I seemed to buy into was that an adult woman is always supposed to have the highest cleanliness level of household occupants. No one I lived with expected me to be the super cleaner but I expected me to be the super cleaner and it made me feel unappreciated. It wasn’t until we actually settled on being childfree that I could shed the role of critical cleaner. Now I clean as much as I needed to feel comfortable in our home. There’s a whole other person with thumbs who can do the same (and robovacs) so we’re content with the outcome.

Is there a cultural ideal you internalized that took way too long to shake off? Or tell us your secret to embracing that ideal.

I saw a poll from @Randy Resnick (Bluesbreaker) asking how long you've been an adult.

I moved away from home at 20 and became responsible for my part of household decisions/expenses. I almost moved back home when I was 23, 25 and then again at 35. I didn't end up doing that but the door was open.

Does moving back with your parents with a finite move out date mean you're still adulting?.

Hi, how are ya? Cass here. Looks like I’ll be here for the rest of the week so I'll have to step up the error-checking before posting🙂

I was watching a video where two guys were trying to convince a third to use an app to organize their life. In the episode, they identified main ways people tend to organize their time. One is by task (todo or reminder apps with notifications) and the other is by events (calendar). I tend towards using calendar events with alarms, and scrawled to-do lists for the day - that's why I have a pen-enabled phone.

What about you? Do you use calendar reminders with repeating events or scheduled reminders/to-do list?

Hello fellow humans, Cass here. @su ann lim will be back tomorrow!

We were visiting with friends and they had someone break into their vehicle and take their registration and garage door opener which they used to break into their house!?! A bad situation was made worse because they have a monitored security system but it took 40 minutes for the company to let them know their alarm had been triggered. I thought the security companies were supposed to call within 5 minutes of an alarm!

Do you live in an area where home alarms are important to have?
