Endlich ein neuer Beitrag. Wenn man in Museen geht, findet man quasi den Zeitenhandel Warenkatalog. Zumindest einiges ist immer dabei. So auch im letzten Urlaub. Auf den ersten Bildern das Schälchen aus dem Shop, einmal mit einem Original aus einer privaten Sammlung. Dann mit Buch als Quellenangabe und französischen Originalen im Victoria and Albert Museum London. So schön kann Recherche sein. Und ihr braucht sie jetzt nicht mehr unbedingt machen. Hab ich schon.

A new contribution at last. If you go to museums, you will find a catalogue of goods from the times. At least some of it is always there. This was also the case on my last holiday. The first pictures show the bowl from the shop, once with an original from a private collection. Then with a book as a source and French originals in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Research can be so beautiful. And you don't really need to do it any more. I already have.

Urlaub beim Zeitenhandel heißt auch immer Antikläden und Flohmärkte besuchen. Auf einem habe ich diese Teile von Fächern gefunden und konnte sie nicht liegen lassen. Sie sind stark beschädigt, aber dennoch bleiben es handgemalte kleine Gemälde des 18. Jahrhunderts. Was denkt ihr? Habe ich Müll oder einen Schatz gekauft? Hättet ihr sie auch mitgenommen und was mache ich nun damit?
A holiday Zeitenhandel makes always means visiting antique shops and flea markets. I found these pieces of fans at one and couldn't leave them lying around. They are badly damaged, but they are still small hand-painted paintings from the 18th century. What do you think? Did I buy rubbish or treasure? Would you have taken them too and what do I do with them now?
Ein paar Tage Urlaub haben gut getan. Zuerst ging es nach London, dort im Victoria and Albert Museum, hängt dieser kleine Reliquienanhänger. Da wir nur mit der Bahn gereist sind, gab es im Anschluss noch ein paar Tage Paris mit Floh- und Antikmärkten. Und was finde ich dort? Einen kleinen Anhänger der als Reliquienanhänger dienen kann. Und das auch noch für einen Schnapper.
Had a few days off. First we went to London, where this little relic pendant hangs in the Victoria and Albert Museum. As we only travelled by train, we then spent a few days in Paris visiting flea and antique markets. And what do I find there? A small pendant that can be used as a relic pendant. And for a bargain too.

Kennt ihr eigentlich diese dreibeinigen Kannen? Nein? Dabei gibt es die in ganz Europa spätestens ab dem 14. Jahrhundert. Man sieht sie auch im 15. Jahrhundert gerne auf Abbildungen mit einer Waschschüssel. Die hier gezeigte Verwendung am Feuer ist nur eine Möglichkeit.

Have you ever heard of these three-legged jugs? No. They have been around throughout Europe since the 14th century at the latest. They can also be seen in 15th century in illustrations with a washing bowl. The use by the fire shown here is just one possibility.

Endlich mal wieder ein neuer Beitrag. Hier seht ihr einen Glättstein oder Gneidelstein im Einsatz. Diese Glassteine sind bereits seit dem Frühmittelalter nachweisbar und fanden in dieser einfachen Form bis ins 18. Jahrhundert Verwendung. Sie eignen sich hervorragend um Nähte zu glätten, damit das Kleidungsstück besser aussieht und sitzt.

Finally a new article. Here you can see a smoothing stone or gneidel stone in use. These glass stones have been around since the early Middle Ages and were used in this simple form until the 18th century. They are ideal for smoothing seams so that the garment looks and fits better.
